BERWICK-UPON-TWEED TO THE CAUSEWAY
Berwick-Upon-Tweed Ramparts, Lighthouse
Mainly Elizabethan, the impressive rampart defences offer fine views across the historic bastion town and over the Tweed estuary. Where the North Sea meets the River Tweed a decommissioned lighthouse sits on the end of a long pier, with distant views of Banburgh Castle and the Holy island of Lindisfarne. Visitors to the pier can be rewarded with the occasional sighting of seals, dolphins and minke whales.
Access over the River Tweed is by two iconic road bridges and a spectacular railway viaduct, adding to the drama and romance of the river and the historic past between Sotland and England.
Goswick Sands, 5 miles south of Berwick-Upon-Tweed
This great expanse of golden sand and grassy dunes stretches all the way to Holy Island and is a haven for many nesting sea birds.
